A Year of Nonprofit Learning: Explore the Full 2025 Series

Learning is not something that occurs once, but an ongoing practice that all nonprofit professionals must be committed to. In December 2025, the Wyoming Nonprofit Network is sharing the entire What We Are Learning series from the year, offering the chance to revisit important topics and access helpful resources to strengthen the sector in 2026. 

January 2025: Advocacy 

Nonprofit organizations have individual and collective power to advocate. Explore the role that 501c3 organizations have in advocating for their missions and the nonprofit sector more broadly.

February 2025: Navigating Uncertainty

Inherently, uncertainty is unpredictable, which creates unique challenges for the nonprofit sector. Reflect on how nonprofit organizations and their leaders can navigate times of change.

March 2025: Volunteer Recruitment

Developing a committed volunteer base can significantly impact a nonprofit organization’s capacity. Consider how nonprofit organizations can recruit volunteers to advance their missions.

April 2025: Form 990 Governance Policies

The information provided and policy requirements on the IRS Form 990 are essential for compliance. Evaluate the IRS Form 990 and the governance policies that the filing requires a charitable nonprofit to adopt.

May 2025: Employee Retention

Prioritizing employee retention can help retain skilled employees and reduce turnover-related costs. Understand employment trends within the sector and factors that impact employee retention.

June 2025: Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

Peer-to-peer fundraising empowers supporters to fundraise on an organization’s behalf, building trust and increasing awareness of the mission through personal connections. Learn about peer-to-peer fundraising and its potential to diversify an organization’s fund development strategy.

July 2025: Donor Stewardship

Donor stewardship is the process of building relationships with supporters by expressing gratitude and demonstrating the impact of their contributions. Explore how organizations can engage supporters and communicate effectively through intentional donor stewardship.

August 2025: Fund Development Evaluation

Strategically evaluating fundraising activities ensures they remain aligned with organizational goals and provides insights to inform future resource allocation. Understand the impact of fund development evaluation and the ways it can improve an organization’s efforts to raise funds. 

September 2025: Hiring

Being intentional in the hiring process ensures that nonprofits select candidates whose values, skills, and experiences will advance the organization’s mission. Evaluate the importance of the hiring process and the impact this process can have on building an effective nonprofit workforce.  

October 2025: Internal Controls

Internal controls for a nonprofit organization are the policies and procedures that safeguard its assets, ensure accurate financial records, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Consider internal controls and their necessity for effective oversight.

November 2025: Year-End Fundraising

An end-of-year campaign is a strategic fundraising effort that takes place when many individuals are motivated to donate to nonprofit organizations because of the generosity of the season or to maximize tax-deductible giving. Explore end-of-year fundraising campaigns and what is needed for these campaigns to be successful.
